1.5Mbps Download Limit Changes

Westnet will be releasing changes to the download limits on our 1.5Mbps plans this week. The website will be updated later this week and all 1.5Mbps members will be contacted via e-mail. The changes will take effect later this week meaning that 1.5Mbps members will be able to enjoy the increased download limits this month.

Here is a summary of the changes:

Also, the “Option 1″ plans within the 1.5Mbps speed bracket are now eligible for Free Traffic (MyWestnet sites, Westnet Download Vault and 3FL site) and shaping. This plan will no longer be capped for monthly excess charges.

I hope you enjoy the increases.

This will be warmly received, I am sure. I know I am happy about it - I was so close to swapping to another ISP. Had even started to look up potential providers.

Thats great news. Too bad for me that I changed from one of these to an 8/384 plan in December.

Any chance a reciprocal quota boost could be applied to the 8/384 plans?

I too have been comparing the plan values between Westnet and others recenlty

    Hooray for decent quota !

    Thank you Westnet.

  5. Ryan Bunter Says:

    Hi Barbara,

It will probably be easiest to go through the options over the phone so I’ll arrange for one of your Sales Team Members to contact you via e-mail to arrange a time suitable for you if you like?

    Thanks.

I am glad to see the increase, had been comtemplating a step up in plans - don’t need to now. Any chance that the ADSL 2+ will go up to match??? I am looking at ADSL 2+ when the exchange becomes available (who knows how long that will take…)
I have been with Westnet for 6 months now and I am really happy with both Phone and ADSL, although I would like to see them do VOIP too, but that’s another thread. Most impressed, keep up the good work guys!!!!
    Cheers
    Steve

  7. arnica101 Says:

If I’m currently on Optus cable, will I be able to get ADSL?

  8. Ryan Bunter Says:

    Hi arnica101,

The only way to know for sure is for one of our staff to run a “Service Qualification” test for you. This test only takes a few seconds and all we require is your telephone number. The easiest way to do this is over the phone with one of our Sales team members on 13 19 60.

    Good luck!

  9. Gary Says:

well i dont know.. what about us that upgraded to faster plans.. i am off to the first decent company that enables adsl2 on cannington exchange.

  10. Markus A. Frank Says:

While I welcome the download changes, I’m still going to transfer to another provider for 2 reasons.
Firstly, the plan is only economical under the bundled option. I’m already running a much cheaper broadband phone option.
Secondly, I find it really annoying that Westnet doesn’t give any concession for the months when I come nowhere near my download limits.

This is a complete furfey. Prices by all ISP’s are way too high in Australia for the speed and download allowances. The options within plans are a joke. When you upgrade, the lower priced options with their limited download allowance don’t let you take advantage of the things you want to do, which was the reason for the upgrade in the first place. I currently pay $35/month for a ‘bundled’ 256k/64k - 5GB/7GB allowance. What average home user can afford to pay more than this? This miserly speed allows me to listen to internet radio and play/download mp3 music files. Attempting to play/download video or movie clips are an exercise in pure frustration. An upgrade to the 512k/64k ‘bundled’plan with an equivalent download limit will cost $45/month. This is a lot of money for the average punter, and I am not even sure this will give me stutter free video and movie play/downloads. Westnet crowing about an increase in download limit for the 1.5M plan sticks in my craw. A 1.5M - 3GB/3GB bundled plan will cost me $50/month and a 1.5M - 10GB/15GB plan will cost me a whopping $60/month. Give me a break. And what happened to the 5GB/7GB allowance. All an exercise in getting you to pay more for something that, in this day and age, should be costing the average punter half the current prices. Give more customers decent speeds and download allowances at a reasonable price and then you can expect a pat on the back from customers who may be inclined to maintain their accounts. As for me, at the drop of a hat, I will move to the ISP who will give me a speed and download allowance that is useful for my needs - Listening to internet radio, playing/downloading mp3 files and video and music clips without the frustration factor. Not too much to ask I think.
